Zinedine Zidane set to make history at Real, Madrid.

Fortune favors the bold. This adage best suits Zinedine Zidane. His career has been a lustrous one from his days as a player of different European clubs to now as the Real Madrid coach where he was a star player. Zidane replaced Rafael Benitez in January with the club’s owners and fans putting their silver hopes on his shoulders. After taking over the reins in January, Zidane led Real Madrid to their 11th Champions League victory by beating Atletico Madrid 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at stoppage time in May.

Zidane entered the annals of the club's history by winning the UEFA Champions League as a player in 2002, assistant coach (under Carlo Ancelotti) in 2014, and now as the coach in 2016. Zidane has guided Real Madrid to 14 straight La Liga wins in the 2016/17 season, just one win shy of the club’s record.

The reigning European champions play Osasuna on Saturday 10, 2016. The game will be played at Real Madrid’s home turf, the Santiago Bernabeu. A win in next week’s game will place Zidane at par with another of Real Madrid’s legendary coaches, Miguel Munoz. Munoz guided the Real to 15 straight wins in the 1960/61 season.

Munoz and Zidane have a lot in common. Munoz spent a majority of his playing career at Real Madrid before retiring and started to coach the club. He led the team to win two Champion League victories and nine La Liga titles. Zizou, Zidane’s nickname, was voted the best European footballer of the last 50 years in the UEFA Colden Jubilee Poll conducted in 2004. A lot is at stake as the eyes of the world are on Zizou. The Real Madrid coach has the experience of dealing with high-pressure and is expected to rewrite history.
