Team USA meets Venezuela at the Olympics

Venezuela's men's basketball team has been terminated from the Olympics. Despite the loss, the team is still pleased that they were able to represent Venezuela which seemed impossible in previous years. The Venezuela Men’s Basketball Team was able to reach the Olympics when they won the FIBA Americas tournament which was held last September. The team was able to defeat Canada at that time. It was truly a winning moment for Venezuela because Canada just beat them with 20 points the week before. Venezuela later on beat Argentina which brought them to the Olympics. After 24 years, the Venezuelans won a place at the Olympics.

The team had a hard time making it to the Olympics. The challenges the team had to face were not limited to basketball. Everybody knows that the participation to Olympic basketball is an indication of a certain country's progress. During that time, Venezuela was struggling due to political issues, a drop in oil prices, and many other problems relating to its governance.

Despite all the hardships, Venezuela's basketball team made it to Rio. Guard John Cox was grateful that they could represent their country. They are pleased having inspired their countrymen through sports.

Cox moved from Caracas to Philadelphia where his relatives are now residing. He is Kobe Bryant's cousin. In an interview, Heissler Guillent stated that it was hard for the players to focus because they knew what was going on with the families they left at home. He said they had to be professional and give their best to bring home a win.
